Rs 2000 notes exchange, deposit Updates May 23, 2023: People can deposit these notes in bank accounts or exchange them. The deadline to do so is September 30. The Central Bank has already stated that all bank notes in Rs 2,000 denomination will continue to be a legal tender.
Rs 2000 currency note withdrawn: In order to exchange Rs 2000 notes, RBI had said that the persons who come to exchange or deposit Rs 2000 currency notes will have to file a requisition slip.

Former Reserve Bank Deputy Governor R Gandhi on Friday said withdrawal of the Rs 2,000 bank notes will help in curbing black money to a "great extent" because people are hoarding the high value currency.
The former Union finance minister said that a few weeks after demonetisation, the government and the RBI were forced to re-introduce the Rs 500 note and he will not be surprised if the Centre re-introduces the Rs 1,000 note as well.
The Reserve Bank of India has decided to withdraw the Rs 2,000 banknotes from circulation. However, the central bank has said that the currency notes will continue to be legal tender till 30 September. Further, RBI has asked banks to provide deposit and/or exchange facility for Rs 2,000 notes until 30 September, 2023.
