Gadkari further stated that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to make India a five-trillion-dollar economy by 2027, the development of world-class infrastructure will play a pivotal role.

The government intends to double the turnover of the automobile industry to Rs 15 lakh crore from Rs 7.5 lakh crore at present, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.

The Union transport ministry has asked states to facilitate acceptance of driving licence and other documents like vehicle registration certificates in electronic format by enforcement agencies.

"If the vehicle registration details on the mParivahan or eChallan app contain the details of the policy which is in force, then the requirement of a physical copy of the insurance certificate is also not to be enforced," it said.

Driving licence, other papers valid in digital form

"Along with the Road Transport and Highways Ministry, FY17 overall sector completion is expected to be best ever at 8,000 km vs the current best of 6,061 km achieved in FY16. This implies a completion rate of 22 km per day, much better than 17 km per day achieved in FY16," it said.

Indian highways completion is highest in FY17

"We target to bring out overall 30 or 40 projects initially and we would be able to raise about Rs 15,000 to 20,000 crore out of it to begin with," NHAI Chairman Raghav Chandra told PTI.
