<p>According to official data, India had exported 5.66 million tonnes of non-basmati rice in 2016-17 and the shipments were 3.51 million tonnes in the first six months of the current fiscal.</p>


India eyes African nations to increase export of non-basmati rice

The India International Rice Conference, initiated by Indian rice exporters, has commenced with participation from farmers across 20-21 states, approximately 55 diplomats, and numerous buyers. The event features live rice processing plants, attracting 3-4,000 exporters and startups from across India.

India aims to boost global rice export share from 40% to 60%: IREF President Prem Garg

The government has exempted export of non-basmati white rice from customs duty. In a notification, the revenue department also reduced export duty on parboiled rice, husked (brown rice), and rice in the husk (paddy or rough) to 10 per cent.

However, export is allowed on the basis of permission granted by the government of India to other countries to meet their food security needs and based on the request of their government.
