Regional rural banks incur net loss of Rs 2,206 cr in FY20

Regional rural banks (RRBs) as a group reported net loss of Rs 2,206 crore in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020, as against Rs 652-crore net loss in FY19, according to data published by Nabard.

Currently, there are somewhat 56 RRBs functioning in India, and as on March 2017, these banks recorded credit of about Rs 2,28,599 crore.

RBI extends loan up to Rs 2 lakh against gold

The Reserve Bank has doubled the quantum of loan against gold that could be granted by Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to Rs 2 lakh, provided the repayment period does not exceed 12 months. Earlier, the RRBs were permitted to grant gold loans up to Rs 1 lakh with bullet repayment option.
