The government has withdrawn the mandate requiring smartphone makers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app, saying rising voluntary adoption makes the rule unnecessary. The Ministry clarified that the app is purely a citizen-safety tool with no surveillance capability and collects no data without consent. With over 1.4 crore users and major fraud-detection results, the platform will now continue as an optional download.
