Today the Union Cabinet took a big decision in the interest of farmers. Union Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that the MSP of 14 Kharif crops was approved in the meeting. With this, the MSP of Kharif crops for the crop year 2022-23 will now increase. Farmers will benefit a lot from this.

The government has raised the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy of 14 crops with the aim to boost farmers income for the 2019-20 crop season. The MSP of Paddy kharif crop, by 3.7 per cent to Rs 1,815 per quintal for the 2019-20 crop season, while the MSP for paddy has been increased by Rs 65 per quintal, Jowar by Rs 120 per quintal and Ragi by Rs 253 per quintal.

This is the highest ever single hike in paddy MSP, overshadowing Rs 170 per quintal announced by the previous UPA government in 2012-13 crop year. In the last four years, the NDA government has annually raised the paddy MSP between Rs 50-80 a quintal.
