Dense fog engulfs Delhi

Dense fog gripped national capital as chilly weather continued in Northern India. Fog enveloped Delhi’s Connaught Place area. Indian Meteorological Department issued ‘red’ alert for the national capital as cold waves continue unabated in the region. Minimum temperature of 2.5°C was recorded in the national capital, on December 29.

Dense fog affects flights operations at IGI airport

As the national capital was engulfed in thick blanket of fog, flight operations were affected. Several flights were delayed due to cold wave. Normal operations were suspended due to low visibility at IGI airport. Minimum temperature was recorded at 3.4 °C on December 29. On December 28, Indian Meteorological Department issued ‘red’ warning for Delhi. The red colour denotes extreme weather conditions.

Rescue operations underway in Uttarkashi following cloudburst in Mori tehsil

On Sunday, a cloudburst took place in Uttarkashi's Mori Tehsil region due to which the Tons river, which passes through the state, is overflowing creating trouble for locals. Due to the cloudburst, several people have been stranded at various places in the area. The government has dispatched teams of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to carry out rescue and evacuation operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall over the next three days in Uttarkashi.

Cyclone Fani: IMD issues 'yellow warning' in Odisha

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a 'yellow warning' for Odisha coast predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places such as Boudh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh. Cyclonic storm ‘Fani,’ which has intensified to severe cyclonic storm is expected to hit Odisha. The sea conditions are likely to be rough along and off the Odisha Coast on May 2 and become high to phenomenal by May 4.

Heavy rainfall predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry this week: IMD

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall beginning early next week. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu between Tuesday and Friday. A low-pressure area is also likely to develop over Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal and move towards the coastal region in Tamil Nadu intensifying into a storm.

A day ahead of the scheduled arrival, the Southwest Monsoon today hit Delhi, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). In the next 2-3 days, it would cover the entire country, Additional Director General Mritunjay Mohapatra said, implying that the monsoon could cover the rest of the nation well before its scheduled dates.
