The government on Sunday extended the deadline for filing the GSTR-3B tax return form by five days.&nbsp;Now, taxpayers can file their returns and make tax payments for the month of September, as well as for the July-September quarter, by October 25.

Last month, the GST Council had recommended providing a new optional facility by way of form GSTR-1A to facilitate the taxpayers to amend the details in form GSTR-1 for a tax period and/ or to declare additional details.

GST Council may simplify returns filing

GST, which came into play on July 1, 2017, has four tax slabs - 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.&nbsp;Almost 227 items were there in 28% GST slab, now only 50 remain, which are mostly luxury items, rest have been put in 18%.&nbsp;

A Notification in this regard is being issued very shortly.&nbsp; This will facilitate about 30.81 lakh taxpayers for filing GSTR-2 for the month of July, 2017.

The Government of India, in a statement on Monday said, "The last date for filing GSTR-1 for the month of July, 2017 is&nbsp;10th October, 2017. An extension of two months has already been given. There will be no further extension given to taxpayers for filing their GSTR-1 return for July."
