Silver witnessed an unprecedented rally this year. In the global market, silver touched a record high of $82.67 per troy ounce, delivering a stunning 145 per cent&nbsp;return on Comex. Silver prices surged by $52 globally, while in December alone, silver became costlier by nearly $22 per troy ounce.

Anil Singhvi, Managing Editor, Zee Business, said the fall was sharp but not unexpected after an extended one-sided rally. Silver first touched a record level above Rs 2,54,000 per kg on MCX. Soon after making the high, prices corrected sharply.

Silver’s market capitalisation has crossed the $4 trillion mark after prices moved past $82 per ounce, placing the metal third globally by market value after gold and Nvidia. The sharp rally has drawn attention to the pace of the rise, with market expert Anil Singhvi pointing to factors driving the surge as well as risks emerging from heightened volatility.

The white metal currently trading around Rs 1,73,937 or&nbsp;up 1.34 per cent for the day. The white metal jumped Rs 2,529 from its previous close of Rs 1,71,637 per kilogram , extending its strong upward run.

Government has increased import duties on various precious metals and related products, effective January 22. Duties on gold and silver findings and coins were hiked from 10% to 15%, while spent catalysts used for extraction saw a rise to 14.35%. These adjustments align with previous silver duty increases from the 2023 budget and aim to regulate the import and taxation of precious metals in the country.

Gold Silver Price: Today, on June 27, 2023, a fall in the price of gold and a rise in the price of silver have been recorded in the Indian bullion market. The price of gold is beyond 58 thousand rupees per 10 grams. At the same time, the price of silver is more than 69 thousand rupees per kg. At the national level, the gold price for 10 grams of 24 carat 999 purity is Rs 58,521. While the price of 999 purity silver is Rs 69695.
