Banking operations across India were crippled for the second successive day owing to the strike by over 10 lakh bank employees demanding an early wage settlement, said the unions.&nbsp;

"The strike call evoked good response. About 85,000 bank branches, including that of State Bank of India (SBI) and some private banks, spread across the country were closed," C.H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees` Association (AIBEA), said.

Bank strike today: In&nbsp;the meeting between both parties, held as far back as May 5, the IBA had offered 2 per cent pay hike, which was rejected outright by the unions. "The IBA representative said that they will consider revised offer but requested the UFBU to quantify the demand," All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) general secretary C H Venkatachalam said.

Bank strike May 2018: AIBOC general secretary D T Franco said the UFBU leaders conveyed their grievance, including that there is inordinate delay, an offer of 2 per cent was not in good taste and the practice of wage negotiation for officers up to Scale VII -- which has been the practice -- has to continue.

According to reports, the Indian Banks Association (IBA) proposed a two per cent revision in wages for employees of public sector banks, but the unions refused to accept the proposal. The strike call has been given by the UFBU, a representative body of nine bank unions, following the government’s reported casual approach to wage revision for bank employees/officers and IBA’s delay in resolving charter of demands.&nbsp;

The All India Bank Employee Association, which also include State Bank of India, IndusInd Bank, and Bank of Baroda, said in a statement on Wednesday that it would will go on strike starting December 4.
