Despite being one of the fastest growing domestic aviation markets in the world, local carriers have been facing tough business conditions, especially with surging oil prices and depreciation of the rupee. As players look to woo more passengers with cheap fares, airlines have not been fully able to increase ticket prices.

"Airlines are maintaining healthy load factors backed by low fares. But since oil prices are on an uptrend, impact on profitability in Q4 is inevitable as average ATF price during the quarter are 37.9% higher YoY, while the yields continue to remain under pressure," says an Icra report.

After the latest revision, the windfall tax on diesel exports stands at Rs 14/litre and on ATF at Rs 12.5/litre, with effect from June 16.

With the latest revision, ATF is now priced at Rs 99,676.77 per kilolitre in Delhi, Rs 1,02,371.02 per kilolitre in Kolkata, Rs 93,281.04 per kilolitre in Mumbai, and Rs 1,03,301.80 per kilolitre in Chennai.
