Delhi to get its own Public Service Commission

On the first day of the Delhi Assembly monsoon session, the AAP government on Monday passed a resolution to create a Delhi Public Service Commission, which will not only give power to the state government over officers recruited through it but also provide basic "services" in the city.

Three months after it took over, the AAP government, in May 2015, said that control of the Anti-Corruption Branch was handed over to then Lt Governor Najeeb Jung due to which it could not take strict action against corrupt officers. The Kejriwal government alleged that this was not so during the previous Sheila Dikshit-led administration, and added that the Centre had issued a notification to give control of the anti-graft body to the LG when Delhi was under President's rule in 2014.

Office of profit case: The EC had referred to the fact that the MLAs had been appointed parliamentary secretaries to ministers in the Delhi government in March 2015. The MLAs then approached the Delhi high court challenging their disqualification. The MLAs who were disqualified were: Alka Lamba, Adarsh Shastri, Sanjeev Jha, Rajesh Gupta, Kailash Gehlot, Vijendra Garg, Praveen Kumar, Sharad Kumar, Madan Lal Khufiya, Shiv Charan Goyal, Sarita Singh, Naresh Yadav, Rajesh Rishi, Anil Kumar, Som Dutt, Avtar Singh, Sukhvir Singh Dala, Manoj Kumar and Nitin Tyagi.

The development came days after the AAP leader regretted having accused Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia of drug trade without evidence. In a letter to Nitin Gadkari, Arvind Kejriwal said he was feeling sorry for making "certain statements, without regard to its verifiability, which seem to have hurt you... "I have nothing personal against you. I regret the same. Let us put the incident behind us and bring the court proceedings to a closure."
