WhatsApp breaks millions of hearts by ending support for older gadgets Every year. 2020 will not be any different. Facebook-owned platform WhatsApp has confirmed that it will stop working on millions of older mobile devices globally as the company has withdrawn support for such smartphones. In a blog post, Facebook said that WhatsApp will not only stop working on these devices but users will also be locked out of the app forever after December 31! Specifically, the users of Windows Phones will be locked out forever after December 31, said Facebook.
"WhatsApp will stop working on millions of phones in the next couple of months as the company withdraws support for some older mobile platforms," it said. Windows smartphones are not the only ones to face the heat. Even Apple iPhones and Android smartphones running on the older version of the WhatsApp operating systems will stop getting support and therefore, will cease to function.
"From February 1, 2020, any iPhone running iOS 8 or older will no longer be supported, along with any Android device running version 2.3.7 or older," Facebook said. It added that users of these operating systems are already unable to create new WhatsApp accounts or re-verify existing accounts.

"Furthermore, WhatsApp is withdrawing support for all Windows phones from December 31, 2019 -- the same month that Microsoft ends support of its Windows 10 Mobile OS," the social networking platform added. Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014 and aims to integrate the messaging platform into its other services Messenger and Instagram.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature for Android users which informs them about a call when on another one. The feature is similar to what you get on a regular call. The new WhatsApp feature basically informs users if any other user is trying to call them, while they are already on a call. The latest Call waiting is available for v2.19.352 stable (APK Mirror) and above of WhatsApp, and v2.19.128 (APK Mirror) of WhatsApp Business. The feature was already rolled out by the Facebook-owned company for Apple smartphone users.
