The growing use of the internet and technology has beaten all the guesses of experts. The phenomenon is global and social media has a lot to do with it. The social media platforms were meant to communicate with people around the globe, building networks, sharing special moments and much more. However, various social media platforms have become a place to consume inauthentic, mentally unfit posts. The moment you start scrolling, it becomes difficult to take your eyes off and you end up killing your precious time. While it's not just about time or scrolling through unwanted stuff, it is about privacy and chances of you being hacked.

There are number of social media apps that ask for your private information. Some even check your smartphone RAM to know all your activities. Your privacy and your sensitive data is at risk.

However, there are some ways, which can save your from data from being attacked on social media.

Here are 5 tips to protect your privacy on social media and stay safe from hackers:

1. Avoid sharing personal information:

Avoid sharing your personal stuff on social media. It is a very bad habit, as you should just not put your private stuff on these platforms. Your personal information like photos, videos, location, activity, financial status, or personal life can get in the hands of wrong people, posing huge risks to your privacy. In fact, people are known to even share details of their bank accounts, credit and debit cards via photos or text on social media. This is the worst possible thing to do. Make sure you never share such data, especially if it can lead to money loss for you.

2. Limit the app permissions, app asks:

Various social media applications ask you to accept their terms and conditions before launching. These include access to contact list, call logs, messages, microphone, camera, gallery, web-browser, location, etc. Giving these apps permission to get access to your privacy in phone can pose a serious threat to your private life. Try not to download apps that ask access to many spaces on your phone.

3. Turn off your location access:

Giving access to your location is the riskiest thing you can do. In various apps, access to location allows other users to track or know about your physical presence. The app tracks your movement and keeps updating the same on your application.

4. Set who all can view your posts, photos, and videos:

Various applications allow users to set limitations on public access. You can set a limit of users who can view your posts, photos, and videos. There are various options like allow access to the public, only friends or friends or no one. These features allow you to limit sharing your personal stuff on social media platforms.

5. Do not become friends with strangers:

As we all know, social media platforms are meant for building communications and build relationships. The benefits are there as you can communicate with someone in your field who would otherwise have been outside your reach. However, as explained above, this advantage of social media apps can turn into disadvantage at any time. One should only form communications with people, whom you can trust.
