Microsoft’s AI-powered Notepad unveiled: Follow these steps to use it

US tech giant Microsoft is working to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into Notepad on Windows. The feature, currently as a preview on Windows 11, is available in select regions like the US, UK, France, Italy, Canada, among others. The new AI-powered ‘Rewrite’ feature facilitates rephrasing sentences, modifying the length of the content, and adjusting the tone. 

To use the ‘Rewrite AI’ tool in Notepad, users need to follow these steps: 

- Highlight the text to be edited and right-click on it.

- Select the ‘Rewrite’ option from the drop-down menu.

- The rewrite tool can also be accessed using the Ctrl + I keyboard shortcut. 

- Users have various editing options, including rewriting the text, adjusting the length of the text, and altering the tone or format of the text. 

- After selecting the preferred option, the AI writing tool generates three versions of the rewritten text. 

- Users can then review the variations and apply changes directly to the selected text. 

In other developments, Microsoft is currently testing a major update for systems that run on Qualcomm’s Arm-based processor. This tool is available in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build, allowing for more x64 apps and games to run on Copilot Plus PCs, which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus processors using its Prism emulation layer. 

This update will enable even intensive games to run on Android-based Windows devices. Being currently under testing, the wider rollout may take place in the upcoming weeks. 

The latest update will enable more 64-bit x86 software to use processor extensions such as AVX, AVX2, and others, ultimately enhancing performance and compatibility. Notably, Microsoft has stated that while these updates will seek to improve compatibility for various games and apps, 32-bit software may still have its limitations.
