LPG Shortage Triggers Surge in Induction Cooktop Demand: Whenever there is a shortage of any product in the market, consumers immediately shift to the easily available alternatives. A similar trend is now being observed across India. Amid growing concerns about an LPG shortage in different parts of the country, consumers are turning to electronic cooking options.
Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran and rising tensions in West Asia, concerns about a potential LPG shortage in the country have grown. As a result, people in India are shifting to alternative cooking gas options, i.e., electronic cooking appliances. This sudden change has led to a significant increase in both online and offline purchases. Over the past day, the demand for induction cooktops and electric cookers has seen a huge increase across major e-commerce platforms and retail stores.
Apart from induction cooktops, the demand for electric rice cookers, microwave ovens, and OTG (oven toaster grill) appliances has also gone up as households look for alternatives to LPG-based cooking.
According to industry spokespersons, consumers are exploring this option through both online marketplaces and offline retailers. Large electronics retail outlets like Vijay Sales have seen an increase in customer inquiries for induction cooktops and other electric kitchen appliances.
Similar trends are being observed on online platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and other e-commerce platforms, which have witnessed a sharp jump in activity.
The e-commerce giant has seen a nearly 20-fold increase in demand for induction cooktops in the last 24 hours, said an Amazon India spokesperson.
"In the last 24 hrs, we have seen demand for induction cooktops surge close to 20X on Amazon.in, compared to a regular day," said an Amazon India spokesperson.
Along with this, Amazon India has also recorded around a 15 per cent increase in sales of induction cooktops.
According to company sources, discussions are underway with suppliers and distribution partners to meet this sudden surge in demand and expedite supply and distribution.
Similar trends are being observed on other online marketplaces such as Flipkart, where consumers are increasingly purchasing induction cooktops and other electric kitchen appliances.
Quick-commerce platforms have also been affected by the sudden spike in demand. Warehouses of apps such as Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart have reportedly run out of stock of electric induction cooktops in several locations.
