London to New York in 2 hours? Boeing hypersonic plane to make it possible

Boeing, the US airplane manufacturer, has reportedly come up with a radical concept for a hypersonic passenger plane. The plane would be able to cross the Atlantic in 2 hours and the Pacific in 3 hours, Daily Mail reported. According to the report, the concept aircraft will have passenger capacity larger than long-range business jets. However, it will be smaller than Boeing's 737, which can carry 85 to 215 passengers.
The hypersonic aircraft will be able to cruise at 95,000 ft altitude and more than 2.5 times the speed of the supersonic Anglo-French Concorde, the report said. The company claims that the passengers will be able to return from London to New York, about 5,585 km, in same day flights across the Pacific. The aircraft will be pressed into service by 2030. The concept was revealed at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics conference in Atlanta this week.
"Building the future at Boeing requires looking decades ahead at what could be possible, and innovating now to make it happen," Boeing was quoted as saying. Kevin Bowcutt, senior technical fellow and chief scientist of hypersonics, said, "We're excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before."

Boeing said its six decades of work designing, developing and flying experimental hypersonic vehicles made it possible to bring in this technology to market in the future. However, Bowcutt he was not sure when the hypersonic flight for the passengers' travel will be a reality. He said it might be possible in 20 to 30 years. The US military could have access to the technology far sooner, the report said.
