- The new feature allows users to share their location in real-time with family or friends
- The new feature is called Live Location and enables people to know where you are
- Feature enables the user to share their location with whomever the person wants to and the duration to share their location
Popular messaging app WhatsApp launched a new location sharing feature on Tuesday. The new feature allows users to share their location in real-time with family or friends. The new feature is called Live Location and enables people to know where you are.
The new location feature enables the user to share their location with whomever the person wants to and the duration to share their location.
“This end-to-end encrypted feature lets you control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire,” the company said in its blog.

The feature works by clicking on the attach button at the bottom and clicking on the “Location” option and under this is a new option to “Share Live Location”.
The user can choose for how long they want to share and tap send. Each person in the chat will be able to see your real-time location on a map. And if more than one person shares their Live Location in the group, all locations will be visible on the same map.
It said that the Live Location option will be available on both Android and iPhone and will be rolling out in the app in the coming weeks.
The share location option has been there on WhatsApp for some time now, but this only enables people to see the route to the end destination. However, people were not able to track their friends and family, and give them guidance on whether they were on the right route.
