Over the past week, Facebook-owned instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has banned several users across the world as it continues to fight against the unauthorised use of the app. Following the ban, many users got a pop-up message saying that their WhatsApp account has been temporarily banned. Some of them expressed their anger questioning how the platform could do this for no reason at all. Well, they are wrong. The ban has been imposed largely because of third-party use which breach WhatsApp terms of service, leading to the ban.

WhatsApp has warned against the use of these apps in the past as well. The warning was placed in the FAQs of the app to warn users about unofficial apps. The platform had urged such users to migrate to the official app citing security concerns behind the decision. It even went on to name WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp, which have been developed by third parties and ideally, should not be used at all.
"Unsupported apps, such as WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp, are altered versions of WhatsApp. These unofficial apps are developed by third parties and violate our Terms of Service. WhatsApp doesn't support these third-party apps because we can't validate their security practices," the app had said.
Back then, WhatsApp had clarified that the ban is temporary with the intent to ensure that more users move to official WhatsApp app. The temporary ban will prevent the user from sending across messages for about 24 hours. So, to avoid any trouble, you should switch to the official version now.
