iPhone Pocket: Technology giant Apple and Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE have collaborated to introduce a new accessory called the iPhone Pocket. It is a 3D-knitted case designed to carry an iPhone and other pocketable items. According to the release, the minimalist yet tactile design draws inspiration from ISSEY MIYAKE’s iconic “a piece of cloth” concept.
The iPhone Pocket will be available starting Friday, November 14, at select Apple Store locations and online at the official Apple account across the US, UK, France, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Greater China, and Taiwan.
"The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user," said Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director at MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’ The simplicity of its design echoes what we practice at ISSEY MIYAKE — the idea of leaving things less defined to allow for possibilities and personal interpretation,” he added.
Molly Anderson, Apple’s vice president of Industrial Design, said the collaboration reflects both brands’ shared emphasis on craftsmanship and simplicity. "This clever extra pocket exemplifies those ideas and is a natural accompaniment to our products," she said. "The color palette of iPhone Pocket was intentionally designed to mix and match with all our iPhone models and colors — allowing users to create their own personalized combination," she further added.
The iPhone Pocket will be available in lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black, priced at $149.95 (US). The long strap version, available in sapphire, cinnamon, and black, will retail at $229.95 (US).
The special-edition accessory will be showcased and sold at select Apple flagship locations, including Apple SoHo in New York, Apple Ginza in Tokyo, Apple Regent Street in London, and Apple Orchard Road in Singapore, among others.
