The new office is based in Bengaluru and will be led by Irina Ghosh, Managing Director, India. Headquartered in San Francisco, Anthropic is an AI safety and research company founded in 2021 that develops reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.

The Bengaluru office is the company's second base in the Asia-Pacific region, after its Tokyo office. The move comes after the announcement that India is now the second-largest market for AI assistant Claude.AI.

Strong Growth and Rising Usage in India

According to the announcement, nearly half of Claude usage in India is related to computer and mathematical tasks such as building applications and modernising systems. Anthropic also reported that its run-rate revenue in the country has doubled since October 2025.

New Partnerships Across Sectors

The opening of the office is accompanied by the establishment of new partnerships in the enterprise, education and agriculture sectors. In the corporate sector, Air India is using Claude Code to develop software faster, while Cognizant is deploying AI for 350,000 employees globally. In the area of ​​social impact, Anthropic is running a pilot project of "Anytime Testing Machine" for students in 20 schools in collaboration with Pratham, an education non-profit.

Focus on Indian Languages and Local AI Testing

Anthropic is also focusing on the region's linguistic capabilities. The company has compiled training data in 10 widely spoken languages ​​in India, including Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil. They are working with organisations like Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to test the model's performance on local tasks in the fields of agriculture and law.

Government and Industry Adoption of MCP

The company also highlighted the use of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in India. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has recently launched the first official Indian Government MCP Server. Additionally, Swiggy is using this open-source standard to allow users to order groceries directly through the Claude.

In a statement, Irina Ghose said, "India represents one of the world's most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises." She added that the country's technical talent and digital infrastructure provide "exactly the foundation you need to make sure this technology reaches the people who can benefit from it most."
