"Our vision is to bring affordable access to information for Indians in their own language, to build new products and services for India's unique needs and empower businesses with technology. "Our teams have optimised a version of our Android OS especially for this device. It will offer language and translation features, a great camera, and support for the latest Android updates," Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google and Alphabet, was quoted as saying by the news agency IANS.
"While being ultra-affordable, JioPhone Next is packed with cutting-edge features like the Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, language translation, smart camera with augmented reality filters and much more. This is testimony to a global technology company and a national technology champion working jointly to make a breakthrough product," Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said.
Counterpoint Research Associate Director Tarun Pathak told PTI recently that pricing is going to be an important factor as the over Rs 5,000 segment in India was just five per cent of the Indian market in pre-pandemic era.
We believe that Reliance is going to target Jiophone smart feature phone users first (65 million). That is likely to be the target. Pricing is going to be the key as over Rs 5,000 segment in India is just 5 per cent of the market in pre-pandemic era," he was quoted as saying to PTI.
Pathak noted that the phone would need to be optimised well as there have not seen many success stories in less than Rs 5,000 segment, and not many players have been able to ace this segment.
