WhatsApp is adding a new storage management tool to its platform which will allow users to manage their device storage better and bulk delete content that may be filling their phone. The Facebook-owned social messaging app now offers easy clean-up suggestions by bucketing both large files and media that has been forwarded a number of times, sorting files according to size in descending order, an by providing a way to preview files before deleting them.

“We now offer easy cleanup suggestions by bucketing both large files and media that has been forwarded many times, sorting files by size in descending order, and providing a way to preview files before deleting them. You can also see a preview of media before selecting one or multiple items to delete,” the instant messaging platform said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The new tools will be rolled out for users across the world. Chances are you may get it in coming days as well. This might require you to update to latest WhatsApp version from the Google Play Store or App Store.

“The new storage management tools are rolling out to users worldwide this week. When available, users can navigate to the new tool by going to Settings > Storage and data > Manage storage,” WhatsApp said.

WhatsApp eating up storage on smartphones has been a pain point for several smartphone users. The instant messaging platform has an auto-download option which saves all media received on your smartphone, taking up a lot of storage. Disabling this feature can lead to missing out on important files.

Apart from this, WhatsApp recently released the Disappearing Messages feature, which once enabled, will make new messages sent in individual or group chats disappear after seven days. As per the information provided on the support page, enabling the settings will not affect the messages previously sent or received in chat.
