New Tax Rules to Tighten HRA Claims on Rent Paid to Family Members

Salaried taxpayers claiming HRA under the old regime will face tighter reporting rules from April 2026. Under the Draft Income Tax Rules, 2026, employees must disclose their relationship with the landlord, especially when rent is paid to parents, spouse, siblings, or relatives.
