There is just four days left for tax payers to link Aadhaar card with PAN card as the process is now mandatory for the PAN holders before they file their Income Tax Return. The last date to link link Aadhaar card with PAN card is also March 31. If you haven't linked both the cards yet, the information given below will help you do the same.

Earlier, income tax returns were e-filed without linking Aadhaar and PAN till August 5, 2017, and the deadline to link both the cards was initially extended from 31st August 2017 to 31st December 2017, and again to 31st March 2018. Even this was extended to 30th June 2018 which has finally been extended to 31st March 2019, according to the Income Tax Department notification. Image source: PTI

You will not be able to file income tax returns until your PAN and Aadhaar are linked, because the tax department will not process the returns. Therefore, you can visit the official e-filing website of the department to link your cards. Image source: Reuters

Now, you should login to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department by entering your login ID, password and date of birth.  Image source: Reuters

After logging in to the e-filing portal, a pop up window will open showing you to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card. If you are not able to see this pop up, just click the blue tab on the top bar ‘Profile Settings’ and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’. Image source: Pixabay

Since your details related to name, date of birth and gender were submitted during the registration on the e-Filing portal, you need to verify these details with the details mentioned on your Aadhaar card. Image source: Reuters

If the details do not match, you should enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code and click on the “Link now” button. A pop-up message will show informing that your Aadhaar number has successfully been linked to your PAN card. Image source:  Pixabay
