8th Pay Commission Revised Pay Calculator: When a pay commission is formed, central government employees have high hopes of a significant rise in their basic salary, house rent allowance (HRA), travel allowance (TA), child education allowance, and other allowances. Pensioners also wait for it keenly, as it boosts their pension to quite a few notches. So, when the 8th Pay Commission was announced, their hopes of seeing their payouts rise substantially were reignited. However, since the process of the Pay Commission's formation and recommendation takes time, their wait may be longer than 1 year. But they will be given revised payouts with arrears applicable from January 2026. The basic salaries will be revised for employees in different pay bands based on the announced fitment factor. The government last month issued two circulars, informing that the 8th Pay Commission formation to appoint 40 members was underway. It also said that officials from many government departments on a deputation basis would be selected for the pay commission.

Once the commission is formed, it will prepare recommendations and get them approved from the central government. The recommendations will have the fitment factor based on which the basic salary and other allowances will be revised.

The fitment factor for the 6th pay commission was 1.92, while for the 7th, it was 2.57. It many be in the range of 1.92-2.86 for the 8th Pay Commission. Once the pay commission recommends a fitment factor, Centre will review it and may suggest a new fitment factor or approve the recommended one.

Not just the basic salary and basic pension are revised, but for employees, HRA, TA, and a lot of other allowances will also be revised. The government may also end some allowances which are not relevant and start some new which are required.

There are as many as 4 pay bands in the 7th Pay Commission. Pay Band 1 is for employees in Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Pay Band 2 is for employees in Level 6,7,8,9. Pay Band 3 belongs to employees at levels 10, 11, and 12, and Pay Band 4 is for employees in subsequent levels. Basic pay of central government employees in these pay bands will be revised.

We are taking selective basic pays for our calculations at a 2.08 fitment factor. We will calculate revised basic pay and total salary for employees with Pay Band 1 (Level 2) Rs 24,500 basic salary. For We are calculating HRA at 24 per cent and TA for higher TPA cities.
