7th Pay Calculations, 7th Pay Matrix: Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month announced the 8th Pay Commission. The current Pay Commission, the 7th, will be in existence till December 2026. The 8th Pay Commission is likely to be implemented after that. Till then, employees from central and state governments will keep getting salaries and pensions as per the 7th Pay Commission pay grades and bands. But how is the monthly salary calculated for them? How dearness allowance (DA), travel allowance (TA), and house rent amount (HRA) are calculated for them, and how much estimated monthly salaries employees earning basic pays of Rs 24,500, Rs 53,000, and Rs 81,100 in different pay scales are likely to get. For Y class, or Tier II cities, it is 16 per cent of basic salary.

How is travel allowance (TA) calculated for government employees?

It is calculated on the basis of the pay level according to the pay matrix.
E.g., employees at a pay band of 14 and above can get the ticket reimbursement for travelling in AC-I class on a train or business or club class on an aeroplane.
While employees with a pay band of 5 and below get the ticket reimbursement for AC-III/First Class/AC train chair car.
Travel allowance for an employee can vary from city to city.

Dearness allowance is a percentage of the basic salary and is revised every January and July. It is calculated on the basis of the All-India Consumer Price Index (AICPI). The base year for DA calculation is the year 2000.
The DA formula is= ((Average of AICPI for the past 12 months, 115.76)/115.76), and 100.
