8th Pay Commission Salary Hike: As Central Govt employees await pay increase details, here's how their salaries have grown in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th commissions

8th Pay Commission: As central government employees have been keenly waiting for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, their salaries from the 4th to the 7th Pay Commission have witnessed exponential growth. The maximum salary in the 4th Pay Commission was Rs 9,000, which increased to Rs 2,50,000 in the 7th Pay Commission.  If the fitment factor of the 7th Pay Commission is repeated in the 8th, the maximum basic salary may be more than Rs 6,00,000.

8th Pay Commission, 7th Pay Commission, 6th Pay Commission, 5th Pay Commission, 4th Pay Commission: Time changes, inflation rises, expenses increase, and with that, expectations of government employees also surge. Like any other employee, they expect to earn more with time. The government reciprocates by forming pay commissions and increasing their salaries. The 10-year pay commission cycle is something every government employee yearns for. It revises their salaries, which helps them meet inflation. On top of it, they get a dearness allowance (DA) and other allowances to keep pace with inflation. But as India has gone through sea changes since 1986, so have the pay scales of central government employees. In the 4th Pay Commission, which was implemented in 1986, the minimum basic pay was Rs 750. For the 7th Commission, implemented in 2016, it became Rs 18,000. Likewise, the maximum basic pay for the 4th Pay Commission was Rs 9,000, which became Rs 2,50,000 for the 7th Pay Commission. If central government employees get a 2.57 fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission as it happened in the 7th Pay Commission, the maximum basic salary can easily be more than Rs 6,00,000.
