Four cities selling diesel priced higher than Mumbai; are you paying hefty price? Find out
Mumbai diesel prices are still low compared to above Patna and Trivandrum, despite this capital of Maharashtra charging you highest Value Added Tax (VAT) after Telangana and Odisha.
The uptick in fuel prices continues in India especially when it comes to diesel prices, as OMCs hike prices of this product at much higher rate than petrol. Indian fuel prices which have been rising on the back of higher crude oil, weak rupee depreciation, state's reluctancy on trimming VAT and government ruling out excise duty cut, has taken a toll on citizens pocket. So much so that even the gap between petrol and diesel prices have narrowed. Interestingly, Mumbai is seen as most expensive city when it comes to selling diesel, but guess what! There are four other cities that actually charge you more than the financial hub. If you are the one residing in these four cities, then your pockets are most hit as you continue to pay expensive diesel.
The price of one litre diesel in Mumbai is at Rs 78.58 today compared to previous day price of Rs 78.53.
However, its not Mumbai where you are paying higher diesel price. It would be Hyderabad that sells most expensive diesel in India. The city is giving one litre of diesel at Rs 80.51 today compared to previous day price of Rs 80.46. Looking at the trend, the day would not be far away when you will pay Rs 81 per litre in this city.
After Hyderabad, it is Bihar's capital Patna that makes you pay Rs 79.86 per litre for diesel today compared to previous day price of Rs 79.38 per litre. Soon you may end up paying Rs 80 for per litre of diesel in this city.
Going ahead, Bhubaneswar would be next in line for selling expensive diesel, as today it charges you Rs 79.33 per litre for the product. Also, on the fourth spot would be Trivandrum for selling per litre of diesel at Rs 79.23 per litre.
Notably, Mumbai diesel prices are still low compared to above Patna and Trivandrum, despite this capital of Maharashtra charging you highest Value Added Tax (VAT) after Telangana and Odisha.

Maharashtra's VAT stands at 24.81% for diesel product, while Bihar's at 18.32%, Kerala's at 23.84%.
The price of diesel in Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar makes sense as their state Telangana and Odisha charges VAT at 25.98% and 25.01% respectively.
Recently, a SBI research report said, "States like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka have the privilege to cut petrol prices by at least Rs 3 from their existing rates and Rs 2.5 on diesel."
