ESIC's insurance scheme is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers which is managed by by the ESIC according to rules and regulations stipulated in the ESI Act 1948.
Earlier, the government had allowed beneficiaries to avail benefits of non-Covid medical services through Tie-up Hospitals. The step was taken in the wake of "potential hardship" being faced by ESI Beneficiaries as some of the ESIC Hospitals were converted to function as dedicated Covid-19 Hospitals. The beneficiaries have been allowed to take emergency,non-emergency treatment from the tie-up hospital without any referral letter in accordance with his entitlements.
The tie-up hospitals have been instructed to maintain a separate record of such ESIC beneficiaries. They were further instructed to raise bills of all such patients after the treatment and send it to concerned ESIC hospitals for payments.
