The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has streamlined the process for updating member profiles, making it easier for individuals to correct details without requiring employer intervention in most cases.
Under the revised system, members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is already linked with Aadhaar can now update their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and other personal details directly—without needing to upload supporting documents. However, for UANs issued before October 1, 2017, employer certification may still be required.
This move is aimed at reducing delays and improving efficiency. Of the 8 lakh correction requests received in FY 2024-25, nearly 45 per cent can now be self-approved by members, eliminating the average 28-day wait for employer verification. Another 50 per cent of cases requiring employer intervention will also be expedited without the need for EPFO’s approval.
EPFO officials estimate that this revision will immediately benefit around 3.9 lakh members with pending requests. Those who have already filed requests through their employer can cancel them and use the new self-approval process instead.
Currently, 27 per cent of grievances filed with EPFO relate to profile or KYC issues. The simplified process is expected to significantly reduce such complaints, ensuring faster service delivery and minimizing errors. Additionally, by reducing the burden on employers, the update aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance ease of doing business.
How to update EPF profile online
1. Visit the [EPFO Unified Member Portal](https://www.epfindia.gov.in).
2. Log in using your UAN, password, and captcha.
3. Click on ‘Manage’ in the menu.
4. Select the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option.
5. Enter the updated details as per your Aadhaar and submit.
6. Track your request using the ‘Track Request’ option.
What is UAN?
A Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit identifier that helps employees manage their provident fund accounts. To benefit from EPFO’s Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme—aimed at job creation—UAN activation and Aadhaar linkage with a bank account are mandatory.
"It is mandatory to seed your Aadhaar with your bank account to avail of the benefits of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme. Do it timely to avoid last-minute hassle!" EPFO previously posted on X.
