Hierarchy and pay levels of IAS officers
The basic-level job (Class 10 as per 7th Pay Commission matrix) for an IAS officer is Assistant Collector of SDM, who is also known as a Junior Time Scale officer.
A DM is a Junior Administrative Grade (Level 12 officer).
After that, Selection Grade starts.
These are Level 13 officers and work as special secretaries or directors in state or central government departments.
