8th Pay Commission Pay Hike, 7th Pay Commission, 6th Pay Commission, 5th Pay Commission, 4th Pay Commission: Once every 10 years, a Pay Commission is a carnival of expectations for government employees across India.
Central and state government employees keenly wait for a decent jump in their salaries.
A hike that will boost their pay up to a level where they can catch up with the rising inflation; that can help them meet many of their financial goals; and which helps them keep pace with their private job counterparts.
Every decade, they aspire to get a significant jump. In the 7th Pay Commission, the basic salary rise was by 2.57 times.
As the 8th Pay Commission is about to be established, government employees expect at least a similar jump.
But going by the historical salary jump in the last 40 years, what have been the salary jumps in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Pay Commissions?
What was salary hike in 7th Pay Commission?
The basic pay of government employees was increased on the basis of the fitment factor, which was decided at 2.57. It means that basic pays and pensions saw a jump of 2.57 times.
What is minimum, maximum basic salary in 7th Pay Commission?
After the 7th Pay Commission came into existence, the minimum basic salary rose to Rs 18,000, while the maximum increased to Rs 2,50,000.
What is fitment factor for 8th Pay Commission?
Since the commission is yet to be formed, the fitment factor has not been decided.
But it may be 1.92, 2.08, 2.28, 2.57, or 2.86.
Once the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the basic pay will merge with DA, and the new basic salary will be formed.
Will employees' monthly pensions also increase?
A pay commission is also formed to revise the pension amount. So, the pension is also expected to witness a significant jump.
DA for government employees
While a pay commission comes after every 10 years, the dearness allowance (DA) of a government employee keeps increasing twice every year.
