Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday launched the income tax website version 2.0 as the government notified the 2026 income tax rules, set to take effect from April 1 alongside the Income Tax Act, 2025. The incoming I-T system marks a major overhaul of existing direct tax procedures and compliance laws that is set to replace older procedural systems. It will have updated definitions, compliance structures and new reporting mechanisms.
The system aims to enhance transparency, digitisation and standardisation, with a focus on stronger data reporting, clearer cross-border taxation and improved regulatory frameworks to reduce disputes and strengthen enforcement.

She also rolled out a special awareness campaign, called “PRARAMBH”, for the incoming income tax rules.
CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal said that through PRARAMBH, the new tax regime will be taken to the common taxpayer. 
The Union minister released detailed FAQs aimed at explaining various nuances of the key difference between the new and old income tax systems.
