The Reserve Bank of India is releasing new Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes with Governor Sanjay Malhotra's signature. These notes will look the same as the existing Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. The existing old banknotes of Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes will still be accepted and considered to be legal tender.
The new Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes will have the same design as the existing ones, with the only difference being the signature of the new Governor, Sanjay Malhotra.
The central Bank has confirmed that the older Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes will remain valid and can be used without any issues. The release of new banknotes will not affect the legitimacy of existing ones.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) periodically releases new currency notes featuring the signature of the current Governor, ensuring consistency and authenticity in the monetary system. This practice is a routine measure to update the currency notes with the signature of the incumbent Governor, in this case, Sanjay Malhotra.
Sanjay Malhotra, an Indian Administrative Service Officer of 1990 Batch Rajasthan Cadre, took over charge as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for three years effective December 11, 2024.
