Bank Holidays in January 2026: As the month of January approaches, bank customers should keep in mind that banks will remain closed for several days in the first month of 2026. According to the information shared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks across the country will remain closed for around 16 days. So, customers planning to visit their branch are advised to check the list of bank holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) before scheduling any transactions.

New Year’s Day/Gaan-Ngai Holiday on January 1

Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, and Shillong on January 1 on the occasion of New Year’s Day/Gaan-Ngai.

Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu on January 14

According to the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India, banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Itanagar on January 14 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu.

Saturday, Sunday break in January

January 4, January 10, January 11, January 18, January 24, and January 25 will be Saturdays and Sundays, which are regular weekly bank holidays across the country.

Total January closures (16)

In total, banks in various states will remain closed for about 16 days in January 2026, factoring in weekends, second and fourth Saturdays, and festivals like New Year, Makar Sankranti, Republic Day and more.

Online services unaffected

While physical branches will remain closed during these days, customers can continue to use ATMs, internet banking, mobile apps, and UPI services without interruption, except in rare cases of scheduled maintenance.
