Is the bank closed on Makar Sankranti? Banks in many cities across India will remain closed on Wednesday, January 14, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu. According to the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India, these cities are Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Itanagar. Along with this, banks will be closed for eight more days in the month of January, which includes Sundays and the fourth Saturday. So, customers planning to visit their branch are advised to check the list of bank holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) before scheduling any transactions.
In the coming days of this month, banks will be closed on January 18 and January 25 as these are Sundays, and also on January 24 as it is Saturday – which are regular weekly bank holidays across the country.
Apart from Makar Sankranti, banks will remain closed on January 15, January 16, January 17, January 23 and January 26 on the occasion of Uttarayana Punyakaal/Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Day, Uzhavar Thirunal, Basant Panchami and Republic Day, respectively.
It should be noted that banks will remain closed on January 15 due to municipal elections in Maharashtra (according to the RBI calendar).
While physical branches will remain closed during these days, customers can continue to use ATMs, internet banking, mobile apps, and UPI services without interruption, except in rare cases of scheduled maintenance.
