
Canara Bank Share Price: Indian equity markets remained upbeat for the third consecutive session, with both Sensex and Nifty trading near the day’s high. Among top gainers, Canara Bank shares surged to a fresh 52-week high after ace investor Rekha Jhunjhunwala increased her stake in the state-owned lender during the September 2025 quarter.
On the BSE, Canara Bank stock touched an all-time high of Rs 127.95, reflecting strong buying sentiment in PSU banking names following the disclosure of updated shareholding data.
As per the shareholding pattern available on the BSE, Rekha Jhunjhunwala now holds 1.57 per cent stake in Canara Bank, up from 1.46 per cent in the June quarter. Her total holding stands at 14.23 crore shares, compared to 13.24 crore shares earlier. The steady increase in stake underscores her confidence in the bank’s long-term growth prospects.
Not just domestic investors, but institutional players have also shown interest in the lender. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) raised their stake in Canara Bank to 11.89 per cent in the September quarter from 11.38 per cent previously. Similarly, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) increased their holding to 12.23 per cent from 11.41 per cent in the previous quarter.
The country’s largest insurer, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), continues to hold a significant position in the PSU bank. LIC owns 47.01 crore shares, translating to a 5.18 per cent stake in Canara Bank, as per the latest shareholding data.
For the first quarter of FY26, Canara Bank reported a 21.69 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 4,752 crore, compared to Rs 3,095 crore in the same period last year. The robust performance reflects improving credit growth, better asset quality, and cost efficiency in operations.
Canara Bank shares have delivered stellar returns for investors. The stock has rallied 41 per cent in the past six months and over 26 per cent in the last one year. Over a two-year period, the stock has surged 179 per cent, while in five years, it has delivered an impressive 594 per cent return.
The PSU lender currently commands a market capitalisation of Rs 1,14,789 crore, making it one of the strongest performers among public sector banks in recent quarters.
