L&T bags orders worth up to Rs 5,000 crore from Hindalco, Tata Steel

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has recently won multiple orders in India worth between Rs 2,500 to 5,000 crore in the Minerals & Metals (M&M) business vertical from Hindalco and Tata Steel.

The shares of L&T closed red on Friday's trading session at Rs 3,905 apiece, indicating a downside of 0.35 per cent. The stock reached its intraday high of Rs 3,939 earlier in the session before declining further.

The multiple 'large' orders include a contract with Hindalco for the construction of a 180 KTPA Aluminium Smelter along with the Gas Treatment Centre (GTC) for their new greenfield project in Odisha.

The Aluminium Smelter scope of work consists of civil and structural works, supply and erection. The GTC work involves engineering, procurement, construction and plant installation.

"L&T has been a trusted and time-tested partner to Hindalco for over three decades, playing key role in their expansion programmes across alumina, aluminum and copper plants," the release read.

M&M has similarly obtained a contract from TATA Steel, Jamshedpur, for the installation of a 1 MTPA Coke Oven Battery 6 A/B. The project entails engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction and plant installation.

The Product Business Unit of M&M has further been awarded several orders from various clients in India for the supply of mining and material handling equipment, including Stacker Reclaimers, Wagon Tipplers, Crushers and Surface Miners.

L&T order classification:

L&T classifies its project orders based on their value into five categoriessignificant, large, major, mega, and ultra-mega.

Orders valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore are categorised as significant, while those ranging from Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore fall under the large classification.

Projects worth between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore are deemed major, and those between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore are considered mega.

Any order exceeding Rs 15,000 crore is classified as ultra-mega. Based on this classification, L&T’s recent order wins, valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore, are categorised as large projects.
