LIC, HDFC Bank, SBI, 7 other firms gain Rs 2.3 lakh crore mcap in a week

Domestic equity benchmarks rose about 0.9 per cent each in the trading week ended November 29. A broad-based rally on Dalal Street powered the gains in Sensex and Nifty50 during the week, with financial, energy, FMCG and metal shares being the biggest driving forces. During the week, the Sensex gained 685.7 points while the Nifty rose 223.9 points. Investors grew richer by almost Rs 14 lakh crore as the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies increased to Rs 446.7 lakh crore from Rs 432.7 lakh crore during the week, according to provisional exchange data.

On the other hand, some selling pressure in select auto and IT shares kept the upside in check.

The market capitalisation (mcap)—also known as market value—of three blue-chip companies, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), HDFC Bank and State Bank of India (SBI), increased by Rs 1,20,652.7 crore during the week, according to provisional exchange data.

Combined with seven other firms, the total market cap of the country's 10 most valued firms—including Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), ITC and Infosys—rose by Rs 2.3 lakh crore, the data showed.
