As market participants concluded yet another eventful week on Dalal Street, two stocks rewarded investors with at least 20 per cent returns in the week gone by. While Jubilant Pharmova (JUBLPHARMA) registered a weekly gain of 25.2 per cent, Century Textiles & Industries (CENTURYTEX) rallied 20.3 per cent. Both stocks are part of the BSE 500 and Nifty 500 universes—the broadest indices on stock exchanges BSE and NSE, respectively.
To put things into perspective, the returns translate to a gain of at least Rs 10,000 on every Rs 50,000 of investment. Here's how:
Jubilant Pharmova | Weekly gain: 25.2%
A basket of 52 units of Jubilant Pharmova shares, worth about Rs 49,499 a week ago, is worth Rs 62,078 now.
Century Textiles & Industries | Weekly gain: 20.3%
Similarly, 20 shares in Century Textiles & Industries, worth Rs 48,153 a week ago, are worth Rs 57,899 now.
How the market fared during the week
Both headline indices finished the week more than two per cent higher, scaling a string of unprecedented levels in intraday trade. The Sensex clocked a weekly gain of 1,707 points, or 2.1 per cent, while the Nifty50 added 504.4 points, or 2.0 per cent, led by financial, IT, metal, and energy shares.
As many as 43 Nifty50 stocks rose for the week, with Bajaj Auto, Divi's Labs, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, and Axis Bank being the top gainers with upmoves to the tune of 5-8 per cent each.
On the other hand, ONGC, Tata Motors, HDFC Life, BPCL, and SBI Life, falling about 3-6 per cent for the week, were the top blue-chip losers.
In the BSE 500 universe, 329 stocks registered weekly gains, with 17 stocks gaining 10 per cent or more. Here's the list:
