US Stock Market Closing Bell: Dow Jones falls 260 pts, Nasdaq holds 17,500—Tesla, NVIDIA, IBM drop 3-5%

US Stock Market Close (March 18), Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: US equity benchmarks Dow Jones Industrial Avearge (DJIA), S&P 500 and Nadsaq Composite fell on Tuesday, halting a two-day winning run amid selling pressure in technology, communication services and consumer discretionary spaces. Globally, investors awaited the outcome of a key Fed meeting due on Wednesday for cues.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell is widely expected to announce a pause on the key US interest rates. All eyes will be on the central bank’s latest economic projections.

Among index heavyweights, stocks like NVIDIA, IBM and Tesla fell around 2-5 per cent each.

Growing concerns about US President Donald Trump’s aggressive stance and action on the trade front, and retaliatory action by America’s major trade partners coming in the way of economic growth, has already kept investors on the edge for the past few weeks.

• DJIA: down 260.3 points, or 0.6 per cent, at 41,581.3
• S&P 500: down 60.5 points, or 1.1 per cent, at 5,614.7
• Nasdaq Composite: down 304.6 points, or 1.7 per cent, at 17,504.1
• Russell 2000: down 18.4 points, or 0.9 per cent, at 2,049.9
