<p>The domestic currency fell to 92.39 per US dollar, breaching its previous lifetime low of 92.3575 recorded in the previous trading session.</p>
<p>The rupee has weakened by more than 1 per cent since the Iran-related conflict escalated, reflecting concerns that persistently high oil prices could worsen India’s external balances and inflation outlook.</p>
<p>However, the currency has performed relatively better than several emerging market peers, supported by periodic interventions by the Reserve Bank of India in the foreign exchange market.</p>

<p>Rising geopolitical tensions have pushed crude oil prices back towards $100 per barrel, as markets fear supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.</p>
<h2><strong>Why rupee is falling</strong></h2>
<p>According to Manoj Kumar Jain, director at Prithvi Finmart, multiple global factors have put pressure on the Indian currency.</p>
<p>He said the dollar index strengthened sharply and settled at 99.752, rising 0.51 per cent on Thursday, as investors rushed to safe-haven assets amid heavy sell-off in global equity markets.</p>
<p>Safe-haven demand for the US dollar and US bonds increased as the US 10-year bond yields moved higher. At the same time, crude oil prices surged again to around $100 per barrel due to supply concerns linked to the Strait of Hormuz.</p>

<h2><strong>Technical view on USD-INR</strong></h2>
<p>On technical charts, the USD-INR March futures contract settled at 92.2625, up 0.23 per cent, on the National Stock Exchange of India on Thursday.</p>
<p>The pair is trading above its key moving-average support near 89.84, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains above 70, indicating strong momentum. The MACD indicator also shows a positive crossover.</p>
<p>Immediate support is placed in the 91.88–91.60 zone, while resistance is seen around 92.45–92.70.</p>
<p>Jain said traders may consider buying on dips around 91.76–91.40, with a stop loss below 91.08, targeting 92.08–92.40, while suggesting waiting for corrective dips before initiating fresh long positions.</p>
