The Reserve Bank of India on Friday announced that it will soon issue Rs 10 and Rs 500 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, featuring the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
The design of these notes remains identical in all aspects to the existing Rs 10 and Rs 500 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, the central bank said.
All previously issued Rs 10 notes by the Reserve Bank will continue to be legal tender.
Similarly, all Rs 500 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series issued earlier will also remain valid.
Just last month, the RBI had declared its plan to release Rs 100 and Rs 200 denomination banknotes carrying Governor Malhotra’s signature.
Sanjay Malhotra assumed charge as RBI Governor in December 2024, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who stepped down after completing his extended term.
