Stock Market Today: Indian benchmark indices opened flat with a negative bias on Wednesday amid mixed trends in the global markets.

Sensex, Nifty open steady

The BSE Sensex opened at 84,643.78 and inched to 84,675.25, almost unchanged from the previous close of 84,673.02. In early trades, the index dipped further to 84,592, down 81 points or 0.10 per cent.

The Nifty 50 opened at 25,918.10 but slipped to 25,899.00. It later moved to 25,877, down 34 points or 0.13 per cent compared with the previous close of 25,910.05.

Top movers on the Sensex

Tata Motors PV, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Eternal, Sun Pharma and Adani Ports were among the top losers on the Sensex.
On the upside, HUL, Infosys, TCS, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra and Trent helped limit the downside.

Broader markets under pressure

The Nifty MidCap index slipped 0.06 per cent, and the Nifty SmallCap index declined 0.23 per cent in morning trade.

Sectoral trend

The Nifty IT index was the only sectoral gainer, rising 0.62 per cent. In contrast, the Nifty Realty index was the top laggard, down 0.5 per cent, reflecting weakness across realty counters.
