Share Market Closing Bell! Nifty, Sensex end at record high levels for 2nd day in a row; banking stocks surge
The Indian markets for the second straight session on Thursday closed at a new record high level, as the BSE Sensex closed above 59100, while Nifty breached 17500.
The Indian markets for the second straight session on Thursday closed at a new record high level, as the BSE Sensex closed above 59100, while Nifty breached 17500. The surge in the benchmark indices were propelled by the banking stock, especially by PSU (public sector unit) banks.
The BSE Sensex jumped over 417 points or 0.71 per cent to 59,141.16, while Nifty50 surged over 110 points or 0.63 per cent to 17,629.5 levels. The mid-cap index following the suite of benchmarks also surged over 107 points or 0.36 per cent to touch a new high for the second day in a row to 30,283 levels.

Jumping most than all other sectoral peers, Nifty Bank has helped the Nifty50 to reach new heights as, the banking index spurted over 816 points or 2.22 per cent, mainly led by IndusInd Bank.
Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 28 advanced, 22 declined at the market close on Thursday. Private lender IndusInd Bank gained most by over 7 per cent at the market close today, followed by ITC up around 7 per cent and SBI almost surged 5 per cent.
Other important heavyweights such as Reliance Industries also helped the benchmark indices to reach new peak by surging around 2 per cent, followed by IOC, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, Hero Moto, BPCL, and Axis Bank each gained between 1.5-2 per cent in record high market.
In otherwise positive market, Grasim declined most by around 2 per cent followed by Bharti Airtel, TCS, Shree Cement, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, UPL and JSW Steel each down over 1 per cent today.
Almost all sectoral indices ended in the green except for Nifty IT and Metal down 0.62 per cent. While Nifty PSU Bank spurted over 5.43 per cent, followed by Nifty Private Bank grew by 2.67 per cent aiding most to the Nifty Bank up 2.22 per cent at the market close. Similarly, Nifty FMCG, led by ITC, also ended over 1 per cent higher and Auto index made marginally gains at the market close.
