Stock Market Closing Bell: The market ended lower on Tuesday as both benchmark indices snapped their six-day winning streak. The Sensex closed at 84,679.76, down 271.19 points or 0.32 per cent, while the Nifty slipped 121.40 points or 0.47 per cent to 25,892.05.

Investors stayed cautious ahead of key U.S. economic data that may influence expectations for a possible Federal Reserve rate cut next month. Most sectors traded with a mildly negative bias, with weakness visible in metals, realty, mid-cap and consumer-oriented sectors.

Banking stocks remained relatively steady, supported by selective strength in media and PSU lenders. Overall, the broader mood in the market was soft and suggested a phase of consolidation.

Realty, Metal, IT, and Smallcap-related indices showed deeper cuts, while banks and selective financial counters remained comparatively stable.
