Closing Bell: Sensex jumps 596 pts, Nifty tops 25,850 as IT, auto stocks drive rally

Stock Market Closing Bell: Indian equity markets ended on a strong note on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, led by gains in IT and auto stocks.

The BSE Sensex jumped 596 points, or 0.71 per cent, to close at 84,467.75, while the Nifty 50 climbed 180.85 points, or 0.70 per cent, to end at 25,875.80.

Broader market indices also participated in the rally, reflecting overall positive sentiment ahead of key domestic and global events.

IT, Auto Stocks Lead Gains

Buying momentum was seen across major sectors, with Nifty IT surging 2.04 per cent, emerging as the top gainer of the day.

This was followed by Nifty Auto, which rose 1.24 per cent, supported by strong movement in leading automobile companies.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Consumer Durables, and Nifty Media also posted healthy gains, up around 1 per cent each.

In contrast, Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal were among the few sectoral laggards, slipping 0.49 per cent and 0.16 per cent, respectively. The Nifty FMCG index ended almost flat, inching up 0.01 per cent.

Top Gainers on the Sensex

Among Sensex constituents, Asian Paints topped the charts with a sharp gain of 6.79 per cent, followed by Tech Mahindra up 3.34 per cent, and Bajaj Finserv rising 2.63 per cent.

Other key gainers included TCS (+2.52 per cent), Adani Ports (+2.18 per cent), Bharti Airtel (+1.56 per cent), and Infosys (+1.35 per cent). Heavyweights like Reliance Industries and HCL Tech also ended higher, contributing to the day’s uptrend.

Stocks Under Pressure

On the other hand, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) and Tata Steel were among the top losers, falling 1.24 per cent and 1.30 per cent, respectively. Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles (TMCV), and Kotak Mahindra Bank also declined marginally.

Broader Market Action

The broader indices reflected strong participation from mid- and small-cap segments. The Nifty Midcap 150 gained 0.79 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 250 advanced 0.74 per cent. The Nifty Microcap 250 index recorded the highest jump among broader indices, up 0.93 per cent.

Market breadth remained positive, with 1,927 stocks advancing, 1,178 declining, and 95 remaining unchanged. A total of 81 stocks touched their 52-week highs, while 85 stocks hit 52-week lows.
