Stock Market Closing Bell: Indian markets ended higher on Tuesday, supported by strong buying in IT, auto, and metal stocks. The Sensex closed 336 points up at 83,871.32 (+0.40 per cent), while the Nifty 50 gained 120.60 points (+0.47 per cent) to settle at 25,694.95.
Volatility remained high ahead of the weekly derivatives expiry, with investors showing caution after October’s sharp rally.
Sectorally, Nifty IT (+1.20 per cent), Auto (+1.07 per cent), Metal (+0.71 per cent), and Oil & Gas (+0.59 per cent) emerged as top gainers, while PSU Bank (-0.39 per cent), MidSmall Healthcare (-0.70 per cent), and Finance (-0.09 per cent) ended lower.
Among the BSE Sensex gainers, BEL (+2.52 per cent), Adani Ports (+2.11 per cent), M&M (+1.89 per cent), HCLTech (+1.78 per cent), and Eternal (+1.53 per cent) led the rally.
Other major gainers included Infosys (+1.06 per cent), Bharti Airtel (+1.06 per cent), Sun Pharma (+1.01 per cent), Ultratech Cement (+0.94 per cent), and L&T (+0.82 per cent).
On the downside, Bajaj Finance (-7.38 per cent) and Bajaj Finserv (-6.26 per cent) were the biggest laggards following weak Q2 results. Tata Motors (-0.75 per cent), Kotak Bank (-0.30 per cent), and PowerGrid (-0.22 per cent) also closed lower.
In the broader market, the Nifty Next 50 rose 0.14 per cent, while the Nifty 100 gained 0.42 per cent. The Nifty 500 index also moved up 0.36 per cent, and the Nifty MidSelect outperformed, advancing 1.14 per cent to lead the broader market gains.
The broader market showed mixed trends; the Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.50 per cent, while Smallcap indices slipped slightly, reflecting selective participation.
Market breadth remained balanced, with 1,561 stocks advancing, 1,562 declining, and 80 unchanged. Meanwhile, 59 stocks hit new 52-week highs, while 146 touched new 52-week lows.
Around 75 stocks were locked in the upper circuit and 76 in the lower circuit, showing a mixed risk sentiment.
