Indian equity markets ended Monday’s session flat, with benchmark indices giving up early gains and snapping a two-day rally amid persistent foreign investor selling and uncertainty around a potential US trade deal.

On Monday, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 ended the session largely flat, with selective sector movements shaping market performance. The Sensex closed at 85,213.96, down 53.70 points or 0.06 per cent, while the Nifty 50 settled at 26,027.30, slipping 19.65 points or 0.08 per cent.

Among Sensex stocks, consumer and IT names showed positive momentum. Hindustan Unilever rose 1.37 per cent to Rs 2,292.00, Trent added 1.11 per cent to Rs 4,118.30, HCL Technologies gained 0.68 per cent to Rs 1,683.80, and Infosys edged up 0.57 per cent to Rs 1,607.80. Asian Paints, Tata Steel, and TCS also recorded modest gains.

On the other hand, auto and financial stocks faced pressure, with Mahindra & Mahindra down 1.92 per cent to Rs 3,608.10, Maruti Suzuki falling 0.89 per cent to Rs 16,374.25, and Adani Ports slipping 0.81 per cent to Rs 1,510.00. HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, and Titan also saw declines.

Nifty 50 Chart

Nifty sectoral indices reflected mixed trends. The Nifty Media index surged 1.79 per cent, IT rose 0.29 per cent, and FMCG gained 0.69 per cent, while Nifty Auto fell 0.91 per cent, Pharma declined 0.39 per cent, and Financial Services slipped 0.25 per cent.

Other sectoral indices, including Nifty Bank, Metal, Realty, and Oil & Gas, traded with minor variations, showing selective participation across the market.

Market breadth was positive, with 1,667 advances against 1,471 declines, while 100 stocks remained unchanged. Stocks hitting 52-week highs numbered 68, compared with 101 stocks reaching 52-week lows. There were 72 stocks in the lower circuit and 66 in the upper circuit. Market capitalisation stood at Rs 467.86 lakh crore as of 12th December 2025
